On August 2, 2023, Lemler Long Ears celebrated a beautiful milestone — the birth of our very first baby donkey! We are overjoyed to introduce little Betty Lou, born to our sweet mama donkey, Rhonda. From the moment she arrived, she’s brought an extra dose of joy, energy, and love to our farm.
Betty Lou is more than just our first foal — she holds a very special place in our hearts. She is lovingly named in memory of Betty Lou Dunwiddie, the kind and caring woman who raised Sonney, one of our beloved donkeys, before he came to live with us. Naming our first baby donkey after Betty Lou felt like the perfect way to honor her memory and the compassion she showed for animals.
Little Betty Lou has been full of life from the start — up and running within hours of being born, exploring her new world with curiosity and confidence. She’s already winning hearts with her tiny brays, wobbly trots, and fuzzy ears.
Watching Betty Lou grow and thrive on our farm is a dream come true. She’s not only a symbol of new beginnings at Lemler Long Ears but also a reminder of the connections and love that carry on through generations — both human and donkey.
We look forward to sharing her journey as she grows.

Welcome to the world, Betty Lou — we’re so glad you’re here.
