A Striking New Arrival: Welcome Baby Lightening to Lemler Long Ears!

We’re thrilled to share the news of a brand-new addition to the Lemler Long Ears family! On March 2, 2025, our sweet and gentle donkey, Miss Ellie, gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy we’ve named Lightening — and he’s already living up to his name in more ways than one!

This little jack arrived with a bold black lightning bolt-shaped marking across his back, and we knew instantly that “Lightening” was the perfect fit. Full of energy and curiosity, he’s been exploring the barnyard with a joyful spirit and little kicks of excitement. He may be small, but his presence is mighty — just like a flash of light in the sky.

What makes Lightening’s story even more special is his relationship with his mom. Miss Ellie is nearly blind, but she’s an incredible mother. To help her stay connected and aware of her baby’s whereabouts, Lightening wears a soft bell around his neck, gently jingling as he moves so she always knows where he is. It’s been heartwarming to watch the bond between them grow — full of trust, love, and quiet communication.

Both momma and baby are doing beautifully, and we’re in awe of Miss Ellie’s strength and calmness as she navigates motherhood in her own special way. Lightening has brought a fresh wave of joy to our farm, and we can’t wait to watch him grow, play, and learn from the rest of our herd.
